When to Plant Hollyhock Seeds

Direct Sow approximately one week before the threat of frost has passed. Hollyhocks can also be sown indoors approximately 9 weeks before your final frost and transferred outdoors about 2-3 weeks after the final frost has passed.

Where to Plant Hollyhock Seeds?

Plant hollyhocks, in moist, rich, and well-draining soil that gets full sun exposure - though they can tolerate Partial Shade. One of the significant causes of hollyhock failure is planting in soil that is too dry.

How to Plant Hollyhock Seeds?

Hollyhock seeds require light to germinate, so be careful not to cover them when planting. 

Hollyhocks may benefit from a 12 hour soak in warm water, but it is not needed. Direct sow outdoors onto the surface of the soil and compress firmly, but do not cover. Hollyhocks require sunlight to germinate. If starting indoors, use tall, individual pots to transplant, as Hollyhocks have long taproots.

How to Care for Hollyhock?

Hollyhocks are a short-lived perennial, tending to last about 2-3 years. This lifespan can be extended by removing flowers as soon as they fade. In non-tropical climates, you can cut your hollyhocks down and mulch in order to give them longer life as well. Hollyhocks can also be susceptible to rust, which will usually infect lower-growing leaves, but can spread upwards. Prevent rust by watering from below, and promoting good air circulation between your hollyhocks.

When planting tall and linear plants, you may encounter the issue of them toppling over.

1. Use supports: Stick some sturdy poles, wooden stakes, or metal frames around the plants. Insert them into the soil and secure them to the main stems or significant branches for extra support.

2. Embrace plant grids: Set up or install plant grids around your plants and let the stems intertwine with the grid, adding stability and preventing them from flopping over.

3. Trim and prune: Keep up with regular pruning to encourage branching and side shoots, enhancing overall structure and stability.

4. Improve the soil: Ensure your soil is enriched with organic matter, maintaining proper moisture levels and good drainage, which promotes healthy growth and robust root development.

5. Wind protection: In windy areas, consider using windbreak netting or fences to reduce the impact of strong winds on your plants and shield them.

***At the moment, all Happy Gardening's products are typically shipped from one of our overseas facilities, so please allow up to 3-4 weeks to receive your purchase(s), though we've been seeing much quicker shipping times recently. Shipping time is typically dependent on how long customs take, which can vary from country to country.

For items that ship from our overseas supplier, there's typically a delay in tracking information being updated from the time the package enters USPS facilities in China to the time it's processed at USPS facilities in the US. This usually takes between 2-7 days on average, although it can take as long as 8-12 days. ***

Sometimes shipping times vary due to circumstances outside of our control, such as:

• IR Disputes/Strikes

• Time of Year (e.g. Holiday Season)
• Large or Bulky Items
• Shipping Provider Error

If any of the above scenarios occur with your package we promise to keep you well informed with as much information that is available to us.

 SHIPPING GUARANTEE:

To back up our commitment and promise to you we will refund the cost of shipping (or give a partial refund if shipping was free) on any item that takes longer than the following time frames to arrive at your destination. 

RISK-FREE SHOPPING:

If for whatever reason your goods don't arrive within 60 days, you will be refunded in FULL for that item. This is our promise to you!

INTERNATIONAL DELIVERY:

We cannot guarantee that you will or will not be charged any customs taxes or duties. You are responsible for all applicable customs, duties, taxes and fees charged by your government. Please contact your country's customs office for respective charges and rates on packages coming outside of your country.

NOTE: On very rare occasions international shipping to some countries can take 4-6 weeks, or possibly longer for the slow-to-ship countries listed below. We are not responsible for any delays caused by the destination country's customs clearance processes. Shipping to certain countries may require additional shipping fees due to the geographical location.

WRONG ADDRESS DISCLAIMER:

It is the responsibility of the buyer to make sure that she or he enters the address correctly. We cannot guarantee address changes due to strict shipping schedules. Please double-check the address you are entering, as we will NOT be held responsible for packages that are sent to the wrong address that the buyer has entered.

If your order is already processed or has already shipped, we cannot change the address and the only thing we can do is wait to see if the package gets returned back to us. In that case, we will be able to provide you with an exchange or refund.
