When to Plant Dahlia Seeds

Sow in flats or trays indoors, 4-5 weeks before the final frost date of the Spring. Transplant outdoors after the threat of frost, when soil temperatures are consistently 65-70°F.

Where to Plant Dahlia Seeds

Choose a Full Sun location with well-draining, low nitrogen soil.

How to Plant Dahlia Seeds

Dahlia seeds require light to germinate, so be careful not to cover them when planting.

Start indoors with plain potting soil, avoiding soils amended with fertilizers. Sow your seeds onto the surface of the soil and compress, but don't cover, as they require light exposure to germinate. Transplant in 4-5 weeks outdoors. Once established, fertilize with a high-phosphorus fertilizer after about 3 weeks.

How to Care for Dahlias

You can continue to fertilize with a high-phosphorus fertilizer approximately every 3-4 weeks to encourage blooms. Over fertilizing will lead to bushy growth with smaller blooms. In the Fall, after the plants have died back, cut your growth down to about 2 inches above the surface of the soil. Carefully dig out your dahlia tubers that have developed and remove any excess soil. Dry for 1-3 days, and store in cool, dry conditions with little exposure to sunlight. Your Dahlia tubers can be planted once again the following Spring.

***At the moment, all Happy Gardening's products are typically shipped from one of our overseas facilities, so please allow up to 3-4 weeks to receive your purchase(s), though we've been seeing much quicker shipping times recently. Shipping time is typically dependent on how long customs take, which can vary from country to country.

For items that ship from our overseas supplier, there's typically a delay in tracking information being updated from the time the package enters USPS facilities in China to the time it's processed at USPS facilities in the US. This usually takes between 2-7 days on average, although it can take as long as 8-12 days. ***

Sometimes shipping times vary due to circumstances outside of our control, such as:

• IR Disputes/Strikes
• Weather
• Time of Year (e.g. Holiday Season)
• Large or Bulky Items
• Shipping Provider Error

If any of the above scenarios occur with your package we promise to keep you well informed with as much information that is available to us.

 SHIPPING GUARANTEE:

To back up our commitment and promise to you we will refund the cost of shipping (or give a partial refund if shipping was free) on any item that takes longer than the following time frames to arrive at your destination. 

RISK-FREE SHOPPING:

If for whatever reason your goods don't arrive within 60 days, you will be refunded in FULL for that item. This is our promise to you!

INTERNATIONAL DELIVERY:

We cannot guarantee that you will or will not be charged any customs taxes or duties. You are responsible for all applicable customs, duties, taxes and fees charged by your government. Please contact your country's customs office for respective charges and rates on packages coming outside of your country.

NOTE: On very rare occasions international shipping to some countries can take 4-6 weeks, or possibly longer for the slow-to-ship countries listed below. We are not responsible for any delays caused by the destination country's customs clearance processes. Shipping to certain countries may require additional shipping fees due to the geographical location.

WRONG ADDRESS DISCLAIMER:

It is the responsibility of the buyer to make sure that she or he enters the address correctly. We cannot guarantee address changes due to strict shipping schedules. Please double-check the address you are entering, as we will NOT be held responsible for packages that are sent to the wrong address that the buyer has entered.

If your order is already processed or has already shipped, we cannot change the address and the only thing we can do is wait to see if the package gets returned back to us. In that case, we will be able to provide you with an exchange or refund.

• The customer refuses to accept the package
• Number of attempts is made in the country of destination to deliver the package.
